I was born in Ohio, but completed high school in Mount Dora, Florida.  I went to the University of Central Florida (when it was much smaller) and received my Associate of Arts.  For the next three years, I was in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.  I served in an airborne brigade at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and spent time deployed in Honduras. My tour ended in the Republic of Korea, serving approximately thirty miles south of the demilitarized zone.  I completed my Bachelor of Arts in history at UCF and then continued in graduate school at Florida State University.  Two years later I completed my Master of Arts in history.

I took an indirect course to teaching in high school by completing education courses and an unpaid internship.  While substituting in Orange County, I began teaching at Valencia Community College in history and humanities.  In 1999 I began a four-year visiting instructorship at UCF teaching World and Western Civilization.

My career took an unusual turn in 2003 when we moved to Vermont and I began work at MetLife Insurance Co. as a financial service consultant.  Five months later we came to Pinellas County and I worked for eighteen months at the local Home Depot.  Finally, in 2005 I accepted a position at Bayside high school teaching U.S. government and currently economics and World History.  In 2007 I began teaching on-line at St. Petersburg College’s ecampus located on the Seminole campus.
I am enrolled in the doctoral degree program at Nova Southeastern University for Instructional Technology and Distance Education (together with my wife). As a student myself, I understand that balancing school, work and life responsibilities can be a challenge. I am always happy to work with individual students to meet those challenges and be successful at St. Petersburg Collge.

My wife Deirdre graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College and teaches U.S. history at Countryside high school and SPC.  We have two children who are both Pinellas County middle and high school teachers.  We also have a Fiesty cat named Luna.
