I was born in Ohio, but completed high school in Mount Dora, Florida.  I went to the University of Central Florida and received my AA degree.  For the next three years, I was in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.  I served in an airborne brigade at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and spent time deployed in Honduras. My tour ended in the Republic of Korea, serving approximately thirty miles south of the demilitarized zone.  I completed my BA in history at UCF and then continued to graduate school at Florida State University where I completed my MA in history. I completed my Ed.D at Nova Southeastern University in Instructional Technology and Distance Education (together with my wife).

In 2005 I accepted a position at Bayside high school teaching Economics and World History.  In 2007 I began teaching online U.S. History at St. Petersburg College’s ecampus located on the Seminole campus.
My wife Deirdre graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College and teaches U.S. history at Countryside high school and SPC.  We have two adult children, our son teaches at Medeira Beach Fundamental school and our daughter is in the doctoral program for Biology at FSU.
I really enjoy living in Pinellas County and making the most of the Florida lifestyle. St. Petersburg is a city with a lot of vitality and experiences. Traveling around the United States is a great way to "make the history come alive" and I usually try and find some historical experience wherever we go. Foreign travel is a priority as well, I have spent the most time in Germany and Japan as well as various areas in Europe and East Asia. Guyana in South America is probably the most unusual country I have been to so far. There is always something new to learn, taste, and people to meet.
