I consider myslelf both an academic and pratitioner. While teaching is a second career, I have been teaching in higher education since 1986. I taught occasional night classes in banking and finance, while working for a large regional bank during the 80’s.and 90’s.  My academic background includes an M.B.A. in Finance and a Ph.D. in Information Technology Management.  Prior to completing my Ph.D., I worked for 20 years in the banking industry. I served as Senior Vice President/Operations of a $46 billion dollar bank, which is now Bank of America. Early in my career, I introduced PC’s to the branch banking system. The network was the first of its kind in the state of Florida. It automated the new accounts and loan application processing through a PC based front-end to a mainframe legacy system. While I managed the backroom operations and the systems support for the bank, my background in finance was critical to my success.

No matter what field or profession you choose, your command of financial principles and concepts will be of great value. Anyone interested in an executive level position must understand how to manage corporate finances.  As a business unit manager, you will be required to forecast and manage an annual budget and manage long term corporate strategies and capital investment strategies. You will also be required to prepare proforma forecasting models to gain executive support for your business unit initiatives. Best of all you will be able to demonstrate the financial impact of your department’s efforts on the bottom line to support future raises and promotions.

Since completing my Ph.D. in I/T Management  in 2004, I have taught classes in Finance and IT Management for several universities including, Pasco/Hernando State College, University of Phoenix, Grand Canyon University and Augsburg College (Minneapolis MN).

Currently, I teach on campus classes at St. Leo University and online classes at St. Petersburg College.   I also have served on the Financial Advisory Board of the International Expressive Art Therapists Association IEATA.org, since 2007.

My teaching philosophy is guided by four core values:  academic excellence, interdisciplinary studies, social responsibility awareness for business managers and integration of management theory and practice.

My commitment to students:
1. I recognize that with knowledge comes the responsibility to serve in advancing a culturally pluralistic, equitable, and interdependent world.
2. As co-learners, I am committed to exploring ways to bridge the gaps between relevancy, academic theory and practical applications in a way that is meaningful to student interests.
3. I am committed to an educational experience that helps students become proficient life-time learners on their own and as part of a team.
4. I am committed to community and organizational efforts to build respect, dignity, fairness, caring, equality, stewardship and self-esteem.
5. I am committed to equitable treatment of all individuals and creating an environment that is inclusive of all.
6. I am committed to building an enlightened workforce, building strong communities and advancing social justice.
7. I am committed to the environment, fair treatment of others, charitable work within a community and the promotion of sustainable management business practices.
8. I am committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of performance, integrity and mutual respect.
9. I am committed to disciplinary and interdisciplinary inquiry that examine underlying assumptions, explore issues from multiple perspectives and develops new critical thinking skills.
10. I am committed to academic excellence that promotes quality through continuous self-assessment and feedback from students and colleagues.

My personal interests include writing and urban gardening.  I serve on the Leadership Committee for an exciting initiative in Tampa Bay for social justice and economic reform, Tampa Bay Time Bank. The organization was started by Edgar Cahn (a civil rights attorney from Washington D.C.) who wrote the book "NO MORE THROW-AWAY PEOPLE: The Co-Production Imperative". Dr. Cahn was also a speech writer for John F. Kennedy. Today, over 26 countries have active Time Bank communities.
The collaborative co-production assets include the family, housewives, children, retirees, students, disabled and unemployed. Time Bank provides a vehicle for empowering people who are engaged in activities that improve the quality of life in a stronger, vibrant, self-sufficient community of co-producers. I am also an urban farmer. Much of my landscape is eatable and enjoyed by my family and many of our neighbors. I have two children. The oldest son is a Ph.D. (Artificial Intelligence) graduate from the University of Edinburgh. Jarred currently lives in London with his wife and 2 daughters.  His wife Sara works as the Global Operations Manager for the fashion house Alexander McQueen’s which is also based in London. My youngest son is completing his degree in Cyber Security at USF and is the Network Manager a BKS - Risk Partners in Tampa, Fl.

As co-producers, we will explore opportunities to discover meaning and purpose in our vocations and our personal lives.
