Hello all,

My name is Jason Michael Laguna and I teach sociology courses online and at the downtown campus of St. Petersburg College. I received my Ph.D in sociology from Florida State University in 2014 after completing and defending my dissertation, which focused on comparative analysis of urban sustainability policy in the U.S. and Canada. My interests within the field of sociology include social policy analysis (especially urban policy), political sociology, environmental sociology, and comparative-historical research methods. I have over 10 years of college level teaching experience and I have taught in-person courses, online courses, and in a study abroad program in Vietnam. During my teaching career, I have taught Introductory Sociology, Social Problems, Self and Society, Vietnam in Transition, and a course about protests and activism around the world called Global Justice Movement. I have also worked as a teaching assistant and tutor focusing specifically on college level sociology courses. Courses I've assisted and tutored students in include Sociology of Law, Marriage and Family, Deviance and Social Control, and Population and Society.

I am originally from the Miami area and I visit as often as I can to see family and friends. I moved to St. Petersburg in the summer of 2010 and it is now my home. My hobbies include reading, writing, travelling, cooking and eating, gardening, watching movies, going to the beach, walking, martial arts, photography, and brewing wine and beer. I am glad to be a part of the SPC family!
