INTRODUCTION:

Mr. Jensen has been teaching as an adjunct faculty member for St. Petersburg College since 1996.

He brings extensive "hands on" communications and leadership experience from corporate, governmental and international travel to enrich the classroom learning experience. He has sat on various Executive Boards in both political and non profit organizations. Professor Jensen has both the academic and unique real world credentials which enhance the SPC experience. 


EDUCATION:

Before Florida, Jensen holds a Master of Arts Degree  - Mass Communication - International Broadcasting and Public Relations (with a concentration in international shortwave news broadcasts and perceptive analysis of how the United States is percieved overseas via the broadcast news content in english language broadcasts) as well as holding a Bachelor of Science Degree (Cum Laude)  - Mass Communication - Radio, TV, and Film major. Both degrees are from Towson University, Maryland where he was awarded a full academic scholarship and a full graduate assistantship. He was also chosen for a graduate internship with the United States Information Agency in Washington, D.C.  Additional education includes an Associate in Arts Degree in General Studies from the Community College of Baltimore County, (Catonsville and Essex campuses) in1985.

After arriving to Florida, he divided his time between education and life outside teaching. He continued his education and earned a volunteer basic firefighting certificate in from PTEC and later his license as an Emergency Medical Technician from the St. Petersburg College EMT program. While an EMT intern, he assisted with an emergency delivery of a healthy girl in the back of an ambulance.  He also holds many advanced Continuing Education Certificates from the Emergency Management Institute in Emmittsburg, Maryland while working at FEMA with in the exrternal affairs division in D.C. as well as Disaster Medical Assistance Team certificates from University of Maryland Baltimore Campus (UMBC) while working in logistics with the National Disaster Medical System, Florida Disaster Medical Team FL-3, Katrina Deployment, 2005 (Biloxi, Mississippi).


TEACHING:

While at SPC part time, he has taught Intro to Speech Communication, Fire and Life Strategies, College Success Skills, Academic Skills for College Success for the Associates Degree program and for the Bachelors Program: Organizational Communication (blended and online), Mass Media and Public Policy as well as the Emergency and Crisis Emergency Communications course (both he co authored). He is also credentialed to teach all of the MCOM prefix courses. Outside the SPC world, he has taught Public Communication courses (speech) for Nova Southeastern University and was the instructor trainer for the American Red Cross, Tampa Bay Chapter. On a national level, he has trained FEMA DAE's (ESF-15) at the National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C.  He has finished taking the QM and related classes at SPC and hopes to put his two courses on line some time in the future.

Grew up in the Uplands area of the Edmonson Village section of Baltimore City, 1962 - 1972.

He has been to 49 states, 4 Canadian provinces, Mexico, 15 European countries, New Zealand and Tahiti in the South Pacific traveling for both business and for fun. As a college student he had hiked most of the Appalachian Trail. As a young married man, he hiked  through parts of the European Alps in France, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland as well as camped in many of the most scenic National Parks in the western United States. He is an antiquanarian with a personal library of over 500 books with 300 written before 1900. The earliest is an 1830 book of Robert Burns' poems.


Starting in 2015 he has published five E-Books on the Kindle and Nook formats: the latest is "Sixty-Five Philosophical Classroom Discussion Topics for Teachers, Parents, Geniuses, and Everyone Who Likes to Think" under the philosophy heading. He is currently working on a fiction work "Ray (of) Hope, Adjunct Professor."

As a single dad and when not with the kid or teaching, writing, or on the road, he spends his free time walking in nature with a new appreciation of life.

His educational philosophy is, "Anyone can learn anything if shown how to do it."
