David Foster, adjunct instructor of business and communication, teaches in the business and the communications programs at St. Petersburg College.

An adjunct instructor in both business and communication, he has been at SPC since 2016 and teaches courses in business communication, public speaking and basic communication. He is active in the National Communication Association, the Central States Communication Association, the Southern States Communication Association and the Ohio Communication Association and has published works in numerous scholarly journals. Among them are The American Communication Journal, Communication Teacher, the Journal of Public Advocacy, the Ohio Communication Journal, The Teaching Professor and The Forensic. Most recently he published “Bush’s Use of the Terrorism and ‘Moral Values’ Issues in his 2004 Presidential Campaign Rhetoric: An Instance of the Rhetorical Strategy of Polarization” in the Ohio Communication Journal and “Setting the Stage for Failure: How Lincoln’s Earlier Public Discourse on Slavery Nullified the Effectiveness of his First Inaugural Address” in The American Communication Journal.  His book Repackaging Republican Appeals: The Use of Propaganda by Conservative Republican Presidential Candidates in the Years Between 1968 and 2008 was published in 2013. Mr. Foster has also presented numerous convention papers, including papers at the National Communication Association, the Central States Communication Association, the Southern States Communication Association and the Ohio Communication Association conventions.

Before coming to St. Petersburg College, Mr. Foster taught for twenty-six years at The University of Findlay, where he coached the speech and debate team and served as Director of the Basic Communication Course. Additionally, he has been a member of the faculty at Florida Southern College, Defiance College, Truman State University, Kent State University, The University of Akron and Southern Ohio College-Northeast.

Mr. Foster has conducted doctoral course work at Kent State University and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication and rhetoric at The University of Akron. He enjoys reading books by John Grisham, books on business and communication and books on sports; listening to country music, spending time with family, and attending sporting events and concerts in person.
