My name is Dr. Kimberly Donovan and I will be your instructor for the anesthesia  portion of this course. I have been a full time small animal veterinarian for 21 years. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1990.

I went into human medical technology for about 3 years. As a human medical technologist, I worked in a private lab in Clearwater, Florida processing and testing human blood specimens. During this time, I also worked as a medical technologist in a private veterinary testing laboratory on the weekends.

I attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the eastern Caribbean located on the island of St. Kitts. This island is part of the British West Indies. This was such an incredible experience. As part of the veterinary program at Ross University we were required to do a clinical year in the United States. University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine was the school I chose to attend for this last year. After I graduated veterinary school, I was employed by a small animal practice in upstate New York in a small town called Liverpool. I worked there for about 3 1/2 years and then decided to move to my home state, Florida.

I currently work as a full time veterinarian at a 6 doctor small animal practice (Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital) in Seminole, Florida. I have been employed here for 12 years. I am the past president and current board member of our local veterinary medical association, Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association. I am also the past secretary and current board member of the Pinellas Animal Foundation which is a non-profit organization that provides grief counseling for those who have lost a beloved animal companion. This foundation is the one that raises money for this vet tech program for scholarships.

My latest project involves the training of firefighters of Pinellas County on CPR and first aid for pets. The veterinary medical team at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital have collected donations from clients to purchase oxygen masks for pets through a non-profit organization called "Project Breathe". These masks have saved several lives already.
I used to teach the veterinary portion of the curriculum at the Academy of Animal Arts Grooming School once every 3-4 months. I also have developed and taught  a few online veterinary courses at Strautzenberger College, Ohio.

I have published pet related articles for the Beacon, one of our local newspapers. Educating others about veterinary related topics is a great passion of mine. There is always something new to learn about the best bond in the world: The human animal bond.

I currently have 4 cats (Onyx, Momma, Minnie and Lily), a Yorkie (J. Lo), a schnauzer mix (P. Diddy). I have been married for 21 years and I enjoy NFL football, NASCAR, country music and tennis.

I look forward to working with all of you and hope you enjoy this learning experience. We will all learn something from this experience.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kim Donovan
