Susan Blanchard, Ph.D. is Emeriti Professor of Exceptional Student Education for St. Petersburg College's College of Education.  Having retired in 2018, she is now serving as an adjunct online professor.
Dr. Blanchard received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education and Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. She earned her Masters in Education in the areas of Emotionally Handicaps and Learning Disabilities. Her Bachelor's Degree is from Stetson University and combines Elementary Education and Mathematics.
Dr. Blanchard taught at Florida State University for 12 years prior to joining the full time faculty at St. Petersburg College as one of the original faculty members of the College of Education. She served as College consultant for Disability Resources at St. Petersburg College and was instrumental in establishing that office beginning in 1991.  She has devoted time to the development of a series of online Autism courses leading to State of Florida Autism Endorsement. In January, 2011, she received a grant from DOE to develop and deliver online courses designed to prepare General Education Secondary teachers to differentiate instruction in order to better include students with special needs in the general education classroom. In 2013, she was named a participant in the national CEEDAR grant which studied ESE teacher certification in the State of Florida. Dr. Blanchard served on the State Leadership Team  for the Florida Bureau of Exceptional Education Student Services as well as the Executive Board of Florida TEd, the Teacher Education group under CEC.  In 2017, she was honored by being named a Distinguished Faculty member of St. Petersburg College.
Dr. Blanchard and her husband have three grown children.  Her first grandchild was born May 11, 2012; twins arrived in June 2021!  Ask to see the hundreds of pictures! In addition to spending time with family, she enjoys spending time in nature and reading.
