Alex Bawell is an educator, librarian, and technologist, supporting student’s and faculty’s instructional support needs for the College of Business at St. Petersburg College, where he works full time as a Project Technologist/Librarian. His hometown is Bonn, Germany. Being bilingual, he moved to the United States at the age of 19.  Alex was honored with a Bachelor’s of Science degree cum laude in Management Information Systems from Bentley University in 2005 and he graduated in 2009 from Florida State University with a Master of Science in Library & Information Studies, specializing in Information Architecture and Networking Technology. Alex earned his MBA degree from FSU in 2019. Alex is also a Microsoft and CompTIA certified professional.

Alex began working for St. Petersburg College as a Computer Support Specialist for the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Taskforce Training department (MCTFT). At MCTFT he administered the mctft.spcollege.edu domain and supported all technology used by the program. Alex traveled to remote locations and set up client-server networks used for Emergency Management training for the National Guard and other local and federal law enforcement agencies.  In 2008 Alex was promoted to Technology Support Specialist for the College of Technology & Management. Alex was instrumental in executing a grant from the National Science Foundation where he created a virtual information security lab for faculty to use in their classes with their students.
    
Alex has been an adjunct instructor for the College of Computer and Information Technology since 2010 and began teaching for the College of Business in 2019. Alex acts as a chaperone, leading business students to the annual Net Impact sustainability management national conferences. He has a cat, plays the piano and guitar and also enjoys sailing, mountain biking, camping, snorkeling and hiking.
