Alex Bawell
Alex Bawell is an experienced educator, librarian, and technologist with a strong background in instructional design and technology integration. Currently serving as an Instructional Design Specialist at St. Petersburg College, Alex supports both faculty and students in enhancing instructional practices and technology usage.
Originally from Bonn, Germany, Alex moved to the United States in 2000 and is bilingual. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems, graduating cum laude from Bentley University in 2005, and went on to earn a Master of Science in Library & Information Studies from Florida State University in 2009, specializing in Information Architecture and Networking Technology. In 2019, Alex completed an MBA from Florida State University.
Alex began his career at St. Petersburg College as a Computer Support Specialist for the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Taskforce Training department, where he managed technology systems and provided support for emergency management training programs. He later transitioned to the College of Technology & Management as a Technology Support Specialist, where he played a key role in developing a virtual information security lab for faculty, funded by a National Science Foundation grant. After completing his library degree, Alex also worked as an academic librarian for the College of Business, providing research assistance and instructional support.
In 2025, Alex was promoted to Instructional Design Specialist, where he continues to contribute to the college’s efforts to enhance teaching and learning through technology. In addition to his role at St. Petersburg College, Alex has served as an adjunct instructor for the College of Computer and Information Technology since 2010 and the College of Business since 2019.
