Professor Austin Vickrey holds a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from the University of Utah (2000) and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (2004). After receiving his Master's degree, Mr. Vickrey was the Assistant Instrumental Director at Earlham College in Richmond, IN (2004-2008) where he directed the Earlham Jazz Ensemble, taught private lessons in saxophone, improvisation, and jazz theory.  In addition to being an instructor of music, Mr. Vickrey is an accomplished saxophonist and performer. He is well versed in several genres of music ranging from jazz and classical to funk, latin, and R&B. Some of Mr. Vickrey's performance credits include shows with The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Al Martino, The O-Jay's, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lou Rawls, and funk legend, Bootsy Collins. Since having moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 2008, Mr. Vickrey continues to teach and perform regularly throughout the Tampa Bay area. He currently performs with the Brazilian jazz group, O Som Do Jazz, as well as with his own quartet/trio and many other local artists.
