Dr. Li-Lee Tunceren has been teaching  English to speakers of other languages for over 35 years. A native of Maine, she earned her B.A. in English and Education from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and then her M.A. in TESOL from Columbia University Teachers College in New York City. She served in the Peace Corps for four years in West Africa; taught pre-service English teachers at Cukurova University, Adana, Turkey, as a Fulbright scholar; headed an Intensive English Program at a private high school in Turkey; and taught ESL at Boston University and Northeastern University before arriving in Florida in 1990.  "Mrs. T." has been at SPC (formerly SPJC) ever since and was instrumental in starting the ESL/EAP program here.  She enjoys working on curriculum, designing and teaching online and blended ESL and composition courses.  She also volunteers her time on the Sunshine State of Florida TESOL executive board, serving two terms as president of this professional development organization.

Li-Lee has worked with the International Clubs on the Clearwater and Seminole campuses and encourages all students to get involved!  She is also the Faculty Champion for Achieving the Dream, a five-year initiative that SPC has undertaken to help our students with diverse backgrounds and interests achieve their personal and professional goals.  For two years, 2011-13, Li-Lee served as Lead Faculty Associate for CETL, the Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning, working with faculty to improve professional development opportunities and better the teaching/learning experience at SPC.  From 2014-2019 she held the position of Academic Chair of Communications at the Seminole campus and since then till present has returned to Clearwater campus as fulltime faculty.

Li-Lee has co-authored two textbooks, College Writing 4 (Cengage, 2006) and Choice and Consequence (Univ of Michigan Press, 2010) and is very active and state and national TESOL events and advocacy for English language learners.  Her doctorate is in Second Language Acquisition and Instructional Technology (SLAIT) from the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Her research interests include academic writing, multiple literacies, and online teaching and learning.
