My name is Dr. May Alves. My journey started here initially with SPC, playing softball. I received my AA, 2004, and then transferred to Piedmont College, in Demorest, GA, graduating in 2006 with a BS in Chemistry. In 2008, I started a graduate program at USF, where I graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, in 2011. I am currently in practice, working in outpatient orthopedics for Select Physical Therapy. 
 
  I am coming up on my 2 years mark as a Physical Therapist. I currently work with various orthopedic (pre/post surgical) conditions, neurological disorders and work related injuries. The age population ranges from high school to geriatric. I am a member of the APTA, which enables me to stay updated on research and provide the best evidence base treatment. I have the opportunity to teach and educate every patient that I work with, whether that's through pathology, etiology, prognosis or diagnosis. I enjoy improving the function and well-being of my patient's. From my clinical knowledge the best way to start is through education. Understanding the diagnosis, structures involved and limitations, greatly improve awareness and compliance of treatment.   

  I like to teach with combination diagrams/pictures, lecture and application. For best results it’s better to hear the information, visually see and apply for understanding. Mistakes and error will occur, however once we correct them we never make the same mistake twice.
