I was born in a small farm town in Illinois. I escaped. My family moved to Florida when I was 12, and I attended many of the schools that our students attend: Ponce de Leon Elementary, Oak Grove Junior High, Largo High School. After high school, I attended the Unveristy of Florida where I received a degree in Poltical Science with a minor in English. I'm still a Gator and I still love politics even though I changed my career path later.
After wandering about some in my twenties, I returned to graduate school at the University of South Florida where I earned a Master's degree and completed the coursework for a doctorate in Literature . I have taught English and Humanities courses for many years at Culver-Stockton College in Missouri, Daytona Beach Community College and St. Petersburg College.
I love to teach. I love the students, I love the material in my disciplines, I love the performance.
I also love to travel: Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Norway, England, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Germany, the American West and Southwest are among my favorites. If you take my humanities courses expect to see slides of my travel destinations and maybe hear a tale or two.
I am also a member of the Honors College faculty, teaching in our Interdisciplinary Studies Honors Program. This is a multi-semester, team taught, learning community in which eligible honors students earn most of their general education requirements through an alternative approach to the subject matter.
