Hello students :-)

I am a native of Florida…born and raised. I earned my B.S in Mathematics at Lincoln University in Missouri, and I earned my M.A. in Educational Measurement and Statistics from the University of Iowa. Upon graduation, I was afforded the opportunity to teach with St. Petersburg College in Clearwater, FL. I love what I do!! There aren’t many individuals that can say they love their jobs. I, on the other hand, can truly say that I absolutely, unequivocally LOVE my job. I enjoy being able to make math seem “easy”. I often hear horror stories about math. However, I have the ability to deliver the material in a manner that makes it easy to understand. When students have their “Eureka!” moment, it makes me feel proud.

I have been working at St. Petersburg College since the Spring of 2003. In 2005, I began teaching online course, specifically Elementary Statistics and College Algebra. As no surprise, I enjoy teaching online classes as well. I take pleasure in being able to deliver a subject via a non-traditional method. There are students who have lifestyles that do not allow them to attend a traditional face-to-face course. Therefore, I want to help in providing flexibility in education to those students.

Although I enjoy what I do, I do not want my students to love math. I simply want them to appreciate the logic, analytical thinking, and critical thinking skills that are involved with understanding and applying mathematics to real-world situations. Due to my renowned teaching, I was awarded the 2014 Distinguished Teaching Award from the Florida Section of the Mathematical Association of America.  In addition, I was a recipient of a 2013 League of Innovation John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award (Innovation in the Use of Technology).

When I’m not teaching, I like to go to the beach to reflect and enjoy the weather. I also enjoy bowling and traveling.
