Ms Renee Torres
I was born in Frankfurt Germany and raised in sunny South Africa. Most of my early years were spent in South Africa where I attended school and University. I completed my masters in Mathematics at the University of Pretoria. After lecturing at a University, I changed careers and moved into the Financial field, where I worked at an Investment Company as a Financial Analyst. However, I really missed mathematics and decided to return to this amazing subject when I immigrated to America.
Teaching is a most gratifying profession! Its keeps one’s mind active and encourages one to pursue your own journey as a lifelong explorer. Each semester brings new and exciting students into my life, and it is so rewarding to know that I can play a part in shaping somebody’s future. True growth can only happen when we challenge ourselves with the unfamiliar.
One of my consuming passions is reading, reading and reading!!! The Bible, Charles Dickens, CS Lewis,…I also enjoy nature and playing board games.
I find the following quote to be very true:
“The study of mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnificence.”
Charles Caleb Colton
(1780-1832, English cleric, writer and collector)
