I have been working in education for thirty years with students with disabilities and their families. I received a Master of Education in Psychological Counseling and Education Specialist degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities. My true passion is assisting students to identify their barriers and provide assistance/resources/strategies to help them reach their academic goals. These barriers can be learning, physical, emotional, family, and/or economic. I have worked with preschoolers and their families on pre-literacy skills, co-taught middle school, and assisted Associate's, Bachelor's, and Graduate students to receive the accommodations to which they are entitled, and adopt the strategies they need to be successful. As the ADA/504 Officer I now have the opportunity to address access college wide for not only SPC students with disabilities but guests that visit or utilize our College. I have been working at St. Petersburg College since June 2004.
I have been married for 25 years, raising our son and daughter together. We moved to Florida because we got tired of the stress and competition-oriented culture of the DC area. We also love the outdoors and the water so wanted our children to be outside most of the year. My husband grew up in Florida and wanted the same for our children. I am very active so I love the warm weather, so I can swim, run, and bike all year round, I participate in triathlons, but love kayaking, paddle boarding, tennis and many other sports. We also love to travel and experience other languages and cultures. We try very hard to raise our children to be open to others and that we live in a dynamic and diverse world in which we share responsibility for improving our community and the world.
I am very excited to get back to teaching, and share my experience and knowledge with others. This is a wonderful opportunity for my professional growth and look forward to learning and growing with my students.
