Diane Roeder, CPA, CFP, CFE

Teaching is rewarding because I am given the opportunity every day to share my experiences with you. Hopefully, the class content is relevant to you in that you can relate the learned concepts to the real world. Much of what we teach is formula based; however, it does not really mean a whole lot until it is actually applied and becomes meaningful to YOU. My goal involves finding innovative methods to make the concepts relevant and meaningful. That is when, I believe, true learning takes place and is retained.
My past is important to my teaching because it provides me the ability to share with you many of my experiences. I have experienced both the public accounting and private accounting realms and therefore I am able to provide some insight toward your possible career path. My academic background includes a Bachelor's in accounting from the Univerity of Michigan and a Master's of Accountancy from Stetson University. I am a CPA licensed in both Michigan and Florida. I am also a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and a certified financial planner (CFP). I started my career as an auditor with Ernst & Young (4 years). Subsequent to my E&Y years, I experienced the private sector working as a controller for Perrier Water-Great Waters of France. After leaving Perrier, I once again returned to the public accounting arena and started my own accounting practice in 1990. As a CPA and CFE, I currently provide litigation support to various local attorneys and work on forensic and fraud engagements.
In summary, my teaching philosophy is to model and/or demonstrate the necessary skills needed to be successful in the world of business and to engage my students in classroom discussions regarding the content being taught. I am an entrepreneur at heart and believe in innovative teaching. The student should be the center of the classroom and I encourage all my students to be actively engaged.
