Mrs. Rosa Rodriguez, MS

My name is Rosa Rodriguez. I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I hold a BA degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from the University or Puerto Rico and a MA degree in Rehabilitation Counseling for the Deaf from the University of Tennessee. I have worked with the Deaf community in various capacities for over 25 years. My work with the Deaf community began in 1992 after conducting a project for a Special Education class in PR.
Teaching ASL allows me to spread my love for the language while educating and promoting awareness of ASL and Deaf culture.
I utilize both the Natural Approach and Direct Method when teaching ASL because I believe languages are best acquired through natural immersion, interaction, and imitation. Because I am multilingual, I understand the challenges of learning another language, but I also know that immersion is the key to fluency.
A quote that best describes my approach to learning and life is:
I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something, and I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~Edward Everett Hale
