Sandra Rivera, M.S.

Welcome SPC Students!
I'm honored to be a part of your educational journey here at St. Petersburg College! My name is Sandra Rivera, and I'm excited to support and guide you as you grow both academically and personally during your time here.
My academic path began at Pasco-Hernando Community College (now Pasco-Hernando State College), where I earned my Associate in Arts degree. Soon after, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Edeucation, earning certifications in K-6 Elementary and K-12 Exceptional Student Education (ESE), along with endorsements in Reading (K-12) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). In addition, I hold a Master's Degree in Psychology with an Emphasis in General Psychology. With that said, I have been teaching for over 10 years and am now entering my 11th year in education, which has been a fulfilling journey of growth and connection. Beyond the classroom, I am also a published editor and proofreader of two books, which have allowed me to stay deeply involved in academic writing research, and professional communication—skills I enjoy sharing with my students.
Though originally from New Jersey, I've called Florida home for over 30 years. I'm also a proud parent of a college student, my son, so I understand both the challenges and the excitement that come with higher education.
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a warm, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment—one where students feel safe to express themselves, ask questions, and engage in meaningful dialogue. I believe that curiosity sparks growth, both academically and personally, and that education is most powerful when we learn from one another.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, staying active, cooking, traveling, and continuing to explore new ideas through research and lifelong learning.
I look forward to learning and growing alongside you!
Warm regards,
Professor Rivera
