Dr Nixon is a native of Pinellas County, graduating from Dunedin HS in 1963. While at DHS he was president of NHS and played four sports. He graduated from Georgia Tech, earning a varsity letter in baseball,  earned a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia,  and served a post doc at Ohio State. Before coming to SPC in 1983 he worked at the Mass College of Pharmacy and University of South Florida. He coached several youth teams in the area, once played major league fast pitch softball, and coached at the high school and college level. Dr Nixon also performed in over twenty community theater plays and won two awards. He has taught organic chemistry, biochemistry and general chemistry for 40 years, the last 28 on the Gibbs campus. While at SPC he has consistenly received high marks from students and received the Phi Theta Kappa "Award of Distinction". In addition, he has serve the college as Brain Bowl coach (state champion and runner-up), Bay Pines Research liaison, assistant softball coach, Southeastern US Chautauqua liaison (NSF), department historian, FGO rep, Lyceum, etc.  Retirement is set for June 30, 2012.
