Arlenne Negron
It is an honor to be a part of the Communications Department at SPC as an American Sign Language Professor.
Teaching is truly a work of the heart. I have been teaching American Sign Language for over seven years, and I’ve loved every moment of it. I hold a Master’s Degree in Teaching American Sign Language and have taught a wide range of courses, including ASL, Deaf Culture, ASL Linguistics, and more. In addition to being an educator, I serve as a mentor to both ASL interpreting students and Deaf children.
There are many reasons I love teaching, but I’ll highlight just two. First, working with diverse students is one of the greatest joys of my career. The variety of backgrounds and cultures in the classroom enhances the learning experience—not just for the students, but for me as well. It allows students to gain a deeper understanding of ASL, as well as Deaf culture and history, while also empowering them to become advocates for the Deaf community through their unique perspectives and strengths.
Second, I believe that passion makes all the difference in effective teaching. Passion creates a positive, engaging learning environment where students feel motivated and inspired. It stimulates curiosity, fosters connection, and supports deep, meaningful learning.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and closest friends, and reading books.
Please feel free to email me anytime if you have questions about our ASL program. I look forward to connecting with you!
