I received my bachelor's degree in philosophy from The University of West Florida, and my Master's degree in philosophy from Western Michigan University. I also did graduate work at Michigan State University and I am currently working on my PhD in continental (European) philosophy at Staffordshire University in England. My area of focus (specialization) throughout is in meta-ethics and normative moral theory. The former is the theory of moral language and metaphysics, and the latter attempts to spell out how we should conduct ourselves. I also have interests in the philosophy of taste and food. My current research focuses on the moral philosophy of Michel Serres.
I teach the following courses at SPC:
PHI 1600 Studies in Applied Ethics (face to face and online), including sections focusing on business ethics, environmental ethics, and health care.
PHI 1010: Introduction to Philosophy
PHH 2101: Introduction to Ancient Greek Philosophy
PHI 2103: Critical Thinking and Ethical Decision-Making
PHI 2624: Ethics in Pop Culture and Entertainment
PHI 2647: Ethics in Science and Technology
When not busy with philosophy I spend time hanging out with my partner, Rhonda, and our three dogs. I also love running, playing hockey, and watching too many sports on TV. I have an abiding passion for good (mostly vegetarian) food and wine acquired during years of professional restaurant work.
Most former students would probably say that my class is both eye-opening and entertaining. I firmly believe that philosophical reflection is a key to freedom, expands the mind, and is a vital factor in a good life. While that all sounds serious, there's nothing to say that it can't be fun!
