Since the age of 5 I have wanted to teach Spanish. I started learning the language when we moved to California in 7th grade and Spanish was the only language taught in the schools. I continued learning the language through college and spent my junior year abroad in the beautiful city of Granada, Spain. I graduated from UNH - Durham in 1992 with a BA in Spanish and a minor in Education. I started my Master's degree at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain and finished at the University of New Hampshire. (Go Red Sox!)
In 1994 I received my Master's of Arts in Spanish Literature (Siglo de Oro y el Renacimiento), Spanish Linguistics and the Methodology of Teaching Foreign Language. I taught at UNH for four years, teaching Spanish 401, 402, 501, 503 and 504 (Intro and Intermediate levels) and then pursued teaching at the middle and high school levels.
I am an English speaker, first. I had to learn Spanish, just like my students. Over the many years of sitting in Spanish classes, I have learned what methodologies work best for each learner, whether auditory, visual or kinestetic/tactual. I believe everyone can learn a new language with the right learning tools and of course, a teacher that meets all learning styles in the classroom. My classroom is an environment filled with listening, writing, speaking and reading activities which include songs, skits and even games. I truly enjoy helping Spanish students learn all the beauty the Spanish language has to offer, from the grammatical structures to the culture of each Spanish-speaking country.
