I completed my undergraduate and graduate work in Sociology at Illinois State University. The focus of my research at ISU was deviant behavior, criminal justice theory, social systems and organizational theory. I completed my doctorate in Education at Northern Illinois University. The focus of my studies and research in my doctoral program was instructional technologies and distance learning.

The majority of my professional life has been spent in various higher education administrative roles. I worked for a number of years in the residence life program at Illinois State University. I then spent four years as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at Midwestern University in Illinois. For the past eight years I have served as the Dean for Enrollment Management for a large comprehensive community college in Illinois.

I have been teaching Sociology as an adjunct instructor for over fifteen years at five different institutions. Teaching Sociology is one of my true passions in life. The functions and social processes of a society are of great interest to me. Whether we are discussing the process of socialization, the basic patterns of social interaction, social control and deviance, the family, religion or the effects of technology on our society, I always enjoy these discussions with students and the learning that occurs.
