Ms. Claire S. Geiger, M.S. serves as a faculty instructor of mathematics for St. Petersburg College.  She has B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Mathematics from Florida Gulf Coast University and a B.A. in Business Management.  Her graduate research aimed to provide a statistical response to the claim that different cultures prefer certain symmetry groups over others.  This research topic is reflective of Ms. Geiger’s long-time love of art.  In fact, the Pythagorean Theorem is a frequent topic in her own art pieces.  In her free time Ms. Geiger also enjoys origami.

In the classroom, Ms. Geiger has been working on causing more learning and less note taking for her students.  Over the last several years she has increasingly been implementing various cooperative learning structures in the classrooms of several SW Florida schools.  These structures aim to put students at the center of the learning process, make class time valuable for students and get students collaborating with one another.  The latter being a valuable, non-math skill that helps her students be successful in their college studies and one that many local employers are looking for these days.
