Lynn Ernst
Before I was a Professor, I thought I had discovered the perfect career. Now I know that my past career was only preparing me for what was to become the perfect career. I am currently the lead instructor for the St. Petersburg College Crime Scene Technology Program located on the St. Pete/Gibbs campus. The Crime Scene Technology Program allows me to share my education, experiences and training with the students that are seeking their A.S. or certificate degrees.
My passion of photography has always been a part of my life and I have been lucky enough to have careers that allow me to use what I have always enjoyed. The early days of processing/printing film of mug shots in the darkrooms to photographing crime scenes and today teaching others the skills necessary to achieve success with photography. Photography has been my circle of life!
My college education was achieved like many of our SPC students working full time and attending college part time in the evenings/weekends. I graduated from the University of South Florida with the successful completion of both my B.A. and M.P.A. degrees.
My employment with a local sheriff’s department provided training in the areas of crime scene investigations and the development/comparison of latent prints as an expert latent print examiner.
My next step led me to a position with the State of Florida in the crime laboratory of the Tampa Bay Regional Operational Center for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. I was trained as a Forensic Photographer and continued work as a Crime Scene Analyst and Latent Print examiner. I was offered a training opportunity as an analyst in the Impression Evidence section and was released to conduct casework in the areas of Footwear and Tire Impressions.
I was involved with many criminal cases from the crime scene throughout the investigation and to expert testimony in the courtroom. I always enjoy sharing crime scene stories with anyone interested in listening. I am proud of our SPC Crime Scene Technology Program and happy to discuss at any time.
