I am a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, a rare entity perhaps. I went to college and graduate school in New England (Smith College and Yale University) but otherwise have lived here all of my life.

I have all sorts of interests -- from science, to history, to cooking, to the arts, to organic gardening and hiking, to my family and friends -- but my degrees are in music and in reading education (earned at USF after returning here from New England).  I teach full-time at Eckerd College where I chair the music department and offer a wide variety of music and humanities courses.  I am required to be "professionally productive" as a professor at Eckerd which for me means composing and performing music and researching American music history. But I have always taught part-time at SPC, initially humanities, but in more recent years, developmental reading and study skills.

I really enjoy teaching The College Experience because I get to open so many doors for students at an exciting juncture in their lives.  I find that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me no matter what or where I am teaching, but I find this to be especially true when I'm working with new students at SPC.  Being a mentor to students in SLS 1126 gives me the same satisfactions.

I love to spend time with my three daughters, all of whom are grown up and more or less out on their own.  They're spread around the country too, from St. Pete. to New York State to California.  I love to travel as well.  Feel free to look me up on Facebook if you want to see some photos.
