Teaching Philosophy
I strongly believe that every student has the capacity to learn and to be academically successful and that it is my role as an educator to help students find the right level of support to maximize that learning potential. I enjoy face to face time with students as this gives me an opportunity to get to know them as learners outside the classroom setting which is where we end up spending most of our lives unlesss we are teachers. While I tend to use a lecture style in the classroom I am open to trying new approaches that allow me to engage students and help them apply what they are learning to real life situations.
Personal Interests
Having spent more than half my life in Montana I am an avid outdoors person. I enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking, mountain and street biking, skiing and just about anything that involves being outside. I am moderately musically inclined and have played my trombone in a variety of symphony/band/small group settings. I have two children, one is in graduate school studying biology and the other is an attorney in Portland Oregon. I'm looking forward to finding all the fun things there are to do in Flordia.
