I grew up on a wildlife sanctuary in South Florida.  After four years in the Marine Corps I went to Tallahassee Community College for a my AA. From there I went to FSU and majored in Geology.  I did my MS and PhD work at Texas A&M University studying plant insect interaction and nutrient cycles in coal swamps.  I've been teaching at SPC since 2004.
