Joshua D. Carney (b. 1985) is an audio engineer, composer, educator, and freelance musician from West Michigan; however, he currently resides in Tampa Bay.

As a composer, Josh's works primarily consist of chamber and wind band repertoire, although he also composes electro-acoustic and fixed media works. His most honored compositional influences are Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, and Beethoven, but his compositional style is also highly influenced by rock, heavy metal, and jazz music. Josh has composed over 100 works for various different instrumentations, and regularly takes on new commissions, including orchestra, wind band, chamber ensemble, solo works, and rock/pop music.

Outside of the classical music spectrum, Josh has been a studio and touring musician (guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals), and an audio engineer for over 10 year. He has performed on, recorded, mixed and/or mastered hundreds of live and studio recordings.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI), where he studied composition with Dr. Bill Ryan and studied euphonium with Daniel Clouse. While at GVSU he was awarded the GVSU music composition award for 2008. Josh also holds a Master of Music degree from Central Michigan University (Mount Pleasant, MI), where he studied composition with world-renown composers Dr. David Gillingham and Dr. José-Luis Maúrtua.

Before moving to Tampa Bay in 2010, Josh worked as an audio engineer for Central Michigan University and also taught basic music technology courses. He currently teaches in the MIRA program at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and in the audio production program at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Florida.

Josh's teaching history includes: Intro to Music Technology, Music and Computers, History of Rock, Audio Recording Techniques, Electronic Music, Music Theory, Class Piano, Intro to Audio Production, Music Design and Synthesis, Advanced Synthesis and Sampling, MIDI, and Logic Pro training.
