Ms. Nicole Caesar

Hello everyone!! I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Environmental Science & Policy at the University of South Florida because I have always been concerned with our capabilities as humans to meet our material needs and wants without subsequent environmental degradation. My research project examines the relationship between Southwest Florida’s freshwater resource management and supply concerns, and
the region’s rapid urban expansion - as a foundation for the development of a more sustainable water management framework for the region. This interest in water resources management is a natural extension of a lifelong interest in environmental sustainability.
Before beginning grad school, I was fortunate enough to spend some time working with a non-governmental marine conservation agency on the island of Barbados. I was responsible for organizing of all of the agency’s community outreach and education programs. We held a bunch of community lectures and workshops in conjunction with other environmental agencies, and we led many coastal cleanups and school awareness campaigns.
During my Master’s program in Marine Science (also completed at USF), I led and organized field trips to the Florida Keys to assess a rapid underwater-monitoring system that was designed by the USGS St.Petersburg remote sensing team. I've always wanted to be in touch with students who are also interested in sustainability issues so I particpated in the USF chapter of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), and the College of Marine Science's Oceanography Camp for Girls (OCG).
I look forward to working with enthusiastic SPC students, and my goal will always be to educate you on scientific and ecological principles that demonstrate connections between our man-made urban world and the natural environment.
Have a wonderful semester!
