I earned my bachelor of science degree in biology from The College of William and Mary in Virginia.  I then attended the University of Florida and earned a Master of Science degree in Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences.  My research focused on the systematics of cephalopods.

In 2001, I moved to St. Petersburg, and began working as a middle school science teacher for Pinellas County Schools.
