Mathematics students often ask "when am I ever going to use this stuff?" My career is an example of using math on a daily basis. In addition, to being an adjunct Math professor at SPC for 20+ years, I have simultaenously worked as a Marketing Research analyst in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry. My focus there is monitoring industry trends understanding consumer preferences and projecting future opportunities. All of which are my optimized via skills learned in mathematics. In addition, I incorporate database tools such as Excel in my analytics. Excel and most database tools are based on "logic" statements which are a fundamental learning in mathematics.

Education is important to me and mine started with an AA degree from SPC. This lead to earning a Bachelors in Accounting from Auburn University, an MBA from Florida State University and post-graduate Mathematics work at Nova Southeastern University.

Now mathematics, especially Online can be a challenge for many students. To assist, these are my philosphies on how best to learn online:

  • Ease Your Anxiety – It is extremely common for some students to face “math anxiety”. These students tend to give up even before trying. First, be confident. You can do this! But if you need extra help, I encourage you to work with others or with a tutor. Free tutoring is available at all campuses.
  • Take Responsibility – A good part of most course grades is based on your ability to complete required coursework on a timely basis. Read and understand the syllabus. Try not to procrastinate and attempt to stay on task.
  • Ask Questions – There are no dumb questions. You can ask me. Ask a tutor. Or even ask your peers in this course.Even asking the question may stir thoughts that allow you to answer and understand on your own.
