Hello Everyone!
My name is Lewis E. Alston.
Presently, I live in St. Petersburg, Florida. I moved here in September 2008. Previously, I had lived in Sanford, Florida for eight years in the same neighborhood. [This city is north of Orlando.]
I watched the kids, in my Sanfordian neighborhood, grow up and the parents attempt retirement. It was difficult to pack up and leave true friends in the rearview mirror. The only positive that comes from moving is that you WILL find out who are your real friends!!
Originally, I am from Sanford, North Carolina. I moved to Florida in January 1999. I had not lived more than 50 miles from my home previous to that moment.
Most of the '80's and '90's were spent in Chapel Hill, NC. I declared that I was tired of living in North Carolina! I screamed that I was going somewhere "different" and live with a clean slate. I will say that God has a sense of humor.
This neighborhood was three lights from work. I moved into my new abode in a quiet neighborhood. I called my friends and relatives to inform them of my new address.
My friends dropped the phone laughing at me when I called to give them my new address. They screamed in my ear when they realized that I had moved 553.72 miles / 8 hours and 38 minutes to live in the same city - "Sanford". [How embarrassing!] (The ambulance and EMTs arrived to give CPR to two of my cousins - due to excessive laughing)
I came to Florida to go to graduate school. (It was an excuse to leave that little town, also....)
Pertaining to education, I possess the following, chronologically:
• BA in Political Science / Pre-Law Track - UNC-Chapel Hill
• ABA-Certified Legal Assistant – Career Learning Center - Paralegal School
• Masters in Human Resources Management - Keller Graduate School of Management / DeVry University - 2003
• Masters in Business Administration - Keller Graduate School of Management / DeVry University - 2011
• Masters in Project Management - Keller Graduate School of Management / DeVry University (I need 2 more classes.)
• Pursuing Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership – Capella University - 2012
Pertaining to Community Activities:
• State of Florida Certified High School Soccer Referee
• Coach Basketball for Orlando Junior Magic League - 5th/6th and 7th/8th graders
• Alumni Committee Member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity
Here is the next Five-Year Plan. I plan to teach exclusively online and conduct Seminars, Workshops and Presentations for Fortune companies. Four years from now, I intend to start traveling in a big RV to enjoy our beautiful country!!
I have enjoyed teaching for different schools in the traditional classroom over the last eight or so years. I am a “people-person” and an enabler for positive results. However, I love the versatility that comes with teaching online.
I will be sharing information; and looking forward to learning more about you, in class.
I am appreciative to St. Petersburg College for this opportunity.
