My educational background includes an A.B. from Goucher College (Modern European history), an M.A. from Trinity College (Secondary Education, and a Ph.D. in Education from Michigan State University. My teaching philosophy is that learning should be fun; students learn best when they feel comfortable and safe in a classroom environment and are learning subjects that are interesting and useful. We are all "works in progress" and learning is a process, not an end in itself. Outside the classroom I enjoy sailing, reading, and working on my house. My "significant other" is an airline pilot, so we travel (usually by car, by the way :))) a great deal over the summer, which we spend in northeastern Pennsylvania, as well as during the academic year. I used to teach a class for people who are afraid to fly, and recently completed the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association "Pinch Hitter" course so that I can land Carl's airplane (a Cessna 172 with four seats) if I need to.
