WHAT IS THIS COMPETITION?
St. Petersburg College is hosting an exciting art and design competition where students can create mission patches for SSEP Mission 22. If your design is selected, it will fly to space aboard the International Space Station and return to our community embossed with an official certification stating that it flew in space! Your patch will become a lasting symbol of student achievement and community participation in the SSEP.
WHO CAN ENTER?
We have two categories for student designers: K-12 Students + SPC Students
The deadline to submit patch designs is November 30, 2026
The winning patch from each category will have the incredible honor of traveling to space!
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
Your patch must follow these rules:
Size & Materials:
Size: NO LARGER than 3.5 inches × 3.5 inches
Material: PAPER ONLY (not card stock or cardboard)
Single sheet: Only ONE sheet of paper with ink—no layers, no glued or taped pieces on top
Design:
Patch designs should celebrate our community’s inspiring journey with the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program while showcasing the innovation, curiosity, and ambition of Tampa Bay and SPC students reaching toward the stars.
Mission 22’s payload is named Armstrong, honoring Neil Armstrong as the first human to walk on the Moon — students are encouraged to draw inspiration from this milestone in their designs.
ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS!
Winners will be selected by a committee based on messaging, representation of the local community, and overall design.
An awards ceremony will be held during SPC’s Science Week (February 22 - 27, 2027) to announce the winning patch designs. Students will be notified of the event via the email address provided on the back of their patch.
