Dr. Dorraine Day Watts received both her Masters in Nursing Education as well as her PhD, with a specialization in Biostatistics and Research Design from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She also has a BSN from George Mason University and an AAS from Northern Virginia Community College. She has been involved in teaching in higher education since 1990, teaching for George Washington University, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and George Mason University.
Before entering academia full-time Dr. Watts spent over 20 years with the Inova Health System, in her final position she was the Executive Director of Research for the Health System, responsible for the oversight of all research including FDA Clinical Trials, grants, sponsored projects, and unfunded investigator initiated research, as well as all institutional IRB’s. Her clinical experience includes over 15 years as an Emergency Department and Critical Care nurse. In addition Dr. Watts has written extensively with over 50 publications in her research area spanning nursing education, pre-hospital care, emergency services, critical care, trauma, and patient safety.
