BACKGROUND

This is my sixth year at St. Petersburg College.  I am the program Director for Allied Health workforce programs. At the Workforce Institute, we focus on helping students begin their careers with short-term health care certifications to fast track their health care careers.  These trainings are usually conpleted in six months.  Prior to this position, I was the Academic Program Director for the Biomedical Technology program which was developed as part of a national, 12 college consortium funded by the U.S. Department of Labor to increase the development of college degree and certificate programs in the Biosciences.  That A.S. degree program currently operates on the Tarpon Springs campus.
I have taught HSA 2001 since 2015, and I have also taught HSA 2171.

Prior to coming to SPC, my career included:
Program Evaluator, Pinellas County Health Department
Director of Program Development, University of South Florida
Director of Community Partnership Development, United Way of Tampa Bay
Researcher and Instructor, Florida International University- Professional Development Center
Project Director, Florida Supreme Court- Racial and Ethnic Bias Study Commission
Consultant, National Association of Social Workers

TEACHING APPROACH

As a student, I usually found myself quite bored with the traditional classroom approach, so I spent time thinking about how to make learning more interesting and engaging. As an instructor, I look for ways to increase opportunities for students to explore the world outside of the classroom and engage in relevant, collaborative activities.  Whenever possible, I incorporate team projects and provide ample opportunities for students to develop professional presentation skills.  I believe students learn best when they use multiple learning modalities and resources. Most of all, I believe that if students enjoy what they are learning, they will take ownership of their education and ensure their own future success.

INTERESTS

Personally, I enjoy interior decorating and design, music, singing, writing poetry and inspirational books, and reading ancient historical fiction.  I also have an interest in developing new electronic technologies.  I hope to one day become a novelist and to write screenplays based on true stories.
