I originally had a Congressional appointment to The US Military Academy @ West Point however, I was not able to attend for health reasons. Subsequently, I completed my BSN from the University of Texas @ El Paso in 1982.  I began working for the Veteran's Health Care system in 1983 and retired from the VA in 2013. During that time, I was certified as a critical care RN (CCRN), a certified nephrology nurse (CNN) and a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). I graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1997 with my Master's degree in nurse anesthesia.
I was the inaugural assistant director of the CRNA program at University of South Florida (USF) from 2006 until 2012. I authored a chapter in Greenberg's Handbook of Neurosurgery 7th ed. on neuroanesthesia and worked predominately administering neuroanesthesia, from 2003 until 2013.
i returned to teaching after my retirement from the VA as an adjunct insrtuctor with St Petersburg College in 2015 and continue to work administering anesthesia at Bay Pines VA as a "fee basis" (prn employee).
My wife and I enjoy many outdoor activities including diving, spearfishing, boating, competitive shooting sports, road and mountain biking. I am a "home chef" of sorts and am currently rennovating my third home (yes, doing it all myself).

I greatly enjoy teaching, My philosophy of teaching is predicated on the belief that students' want and need certain things from their instructors to be successful. They want to be treated as adults, they want to be recognized for achievements, they want to have clear expectations and they want to enjoy learning. They need to be held accountable, they need to be given the tools to succeed, they need to believe they can succeed and they need to be accepted as individuals. I believe my role is to acknowledge these aspects as well as to facilitate each individual students success by providing as many varied opportunities as posssible, exposing students to ideas that expand their understanding of the curriculum and cultivate within them a desire to always learn.
