Professor Grissett is a native Floridian who graduated from SPC with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. As a student at SPC, he was the founder and President of the Biology Club, which he later assisted in transitioning to the organization now known on campus as Tri Beta Biological Honors Society. He was a member of the first-ever graduating class of the Bachelor's Biology program at SPC. He obtained his Master's degree in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he researched the effects of a power plant shutdown on the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris). During his time at Nova, he worked as a manatee observation technician with the Sea To Shore Alliance and conducted many field exercises tagging Florida manatees and conducting health assessments. After graduating with his Master's degree, Professor Grissett returned home to the St. Petersburg area and became an adjunct professor at various colleges and universities around Tampa Bay and is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of South Florida, with a concentration in Integrative Biology. He also is a volunteer Marine Animal Rescuer and Manatee Biologist for the Tampa Bay area and has worked for the Florida Aquarium, taking care of river otters, various shore/sea/raptor birds, various fish species, Madagascar ring-tailed lemurs and African penguins. He hopes to inspire and educate students in their journey of becoming scientists in their eventual science and medical fields.
