I started chasing fire engines in 1971 as a volunteer fire fighter with the Seminole Park Volunteer Fire Department (that location is now owned and operated as station 30 by the City of Seminole in Pinellas County).   Being a volunteer was a great deal of fun but it did not pay well as you can expect. Therefore, I took a position as a fire fighter with Seminole in 1977. I’ve held almost every position (Fire Fighter, EMT, Paramedic, Company Officer, Training Officer, EMS Coordinator, Operations Chief and Fire Chief) within the department with the exception of soot sorter (inspector).

I started my course work at St. Petersburg College (SPC) taking classes for FOI in the early 1980s. Time flies and before I knew it the credits started adding up towards something more tangible than FOI. I received two Associate degrees from SPC, an AS in Fire Administration and Prevention, and an AA in General Education. Shortly after finishing at SPC, I began course work at Eckerd College where I received a BA in Emergency Management and then a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Troy State University. It’s simply perseverance!
