My education/career in veterinary technology started a few years after high school graduation (1973) after getting an AA degree in music. Then I found my dream career in veterinary technology. I graduated in 1980 from St. Petersburg JUNIOR College, when Dr. Tollon was the Director and Dr. Krall was a young Instructor. Emergency medicine was my first full time job, and then I combined small animal practice with emergency on the side.  Being in the right place at the right time allowed me the great fortune of my career at SPC four years later. I held the position of ‘teaching’ in the Vet Tech Program though I was to be the recipient of so much learning over the years to come.  I had the privilege of going to school at night and weekends to continue my education to earn my BA (1989) and finally an MA (1991).  Through the past 25+ years I have taught numerous courses & laboratories within in the program.  When our online distance learning courses stared in 1994, I remember videotaping the blood lab “procedures” and conducting the first ever online chats.  We’ve come a long way!
Since 1999, I’ve been a frequent speaker at National, International and State Veterinary Technician Meetings on topics including Hematology, Cytology & Radiology. Due to the incredible people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with, I’ve had some experiences that include:
- Nutritional Consultant Nestles Purina (1991-2010)
-Bayer Technician Advisory Committee (2008-2011)
-Co-author w/ Margi Sirois, LVT, PhD & Daniell Maraugis, BA, CVT, , Handbook of Radiographic Positioning for Veterinary Technicians,1st ed. Cengage 2009
-Contributing Author, Laboratory Procedures for Veterinary Technicians, 5th ed. Elsevier. 2007
-Contributing Author, Principles and Practice of Veterinary Technology. 3rd ed..  Mosby.  2010.

In my personal life I have two daughters and a grandchild, along with my many close friends that I consider family too.   I enjoy trail/ultra-running, hiking, biking, water sports and yoga.  I play violin with 4 areas orchestras and our quartet group !

Please do not hesitate to contact me (you may address me as Elaine or "e" ) if you have any questions or concerns about this course, any other course, the program overall or the BASVT program. I am looking forward to working with each of you throughout the next few weeks!  And please try to see me some time in my office or if I’m walking around. Please just introduce yourself to me, as I’d love to actually meet you face to face!
Sincerely,
"e" / Elaine
