COURSE INFORMATION:

Course Description
Prerequisites:  CGS 1831 or permission of Dean

This course is designed to extend the knowledge gained in Introduction to Web Page Creation. Students will be exposed to advanced topics in developing Web sites. These topics include advanced design using tables and forms, creating on-line forms with HTML, and using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to design Web pages. Students will also be exposed to the latest developments in terms of Web page design. These topics include Dynamic HTML and Extendable Markup Language (XML). 47 contact hours.

MAJOR LEARNING OUTCOMES
  1. The student will apply advanced concepts of HTML to construct a Web site.
  2. The student will demonstrate knowledge of the newest design techniques related to creating a Web site.
  3. The student will use an advanced Web site editing tool to create a Web site.
  4. The student will create an entire Web site that will incorporate advanced HTML features.

Criteria Performance Standard:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.

Required Course Material:

Instructions from Lynda.com will be emailed to students at the beginning of this course concerning registration (special student rates of less than $20.00 will apply). This course requires access to Adobe Dreamweaver CS6. All hardware and software are available on PCs in most campus Learning Support Commons.

Software For Course

The course application text, assignments, and instructional support will be Adobe Dreamweaver CS6. Additional Open Source Software could be used throughout the course.

Students should download Notepad++ (free open source software) which is the text editor used by the textbook.  Students using Mac may choose to use one of these text editors or Google for your preference.

**Grading will be based on a point system. The breakdown for each is as follows:

7 Discussion Posts: 100 Points
4 Quiz: 100 Points
7 Projects: 700 Points

A - 90% - 810-900
B - 80% - 720-809
C - 70% - 630-719
D - 60% - 540-629
F - below 59% - 0-539

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Assignments are due on the specified dates within each week's folder. If there are problems with completion of the assignment by the appointed date, the student must discuss the matter with the instructor PRIOR to the due date.
2. Each week the Drop Boxes will detail format and submission instructions. Ensure that you review these instructions prior to submitting attached documents.
3. It is the student’s responsibility to follow the schedule of class assignments.
4. Late work will not be accepted, graded, or reviewed unless permission is granted PRIOR to assignment due dates. In the event an emergency occurs, please contact me regarding college policy for submitting documentation.
5. Discussions are part of your grade and proof of attendance. Failure to post on the discussion board weekly will count as an absence. If you do not post each week during the first two weeks of class you may be dropped for non attendance.
