Course Description
Topics include vectors in the plane and space, three-dimensional surfaces, various coordinate systems, vector-valued functions, differential calculus of functions of several variables, gradients, directional derivatives, applications of partial derivatives, multiple integration, vector analysis, line integrals, surface integrals and applications.

Required Textbook & Other Resource Information:

Textbook: Larson & Edwards, Calculus w/Webassign access, 10ed.

Calculator Policy
While not required, students may find a graphing calculator useful in graphing more elaborate equations.  If a student wishes to use a calculator, a Ti-83 is recommended.

Required Course Sites
Every course at St. Petersburg College (SPC) has an ANGEL (SPC's chosen Learning Management System) location with course information and support.  You are expected to become familiar with that course site and participate in accordance with your instructor's communication.

Class Conduct Policy
1. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate for the classroom.

2. Students are expected to complete all quizzes, tests, and exams without assistance.

3. Students are responsible for following all SPC policies as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct Manual.

4. Disruptive and inappropriate communication will NOT be tolerated.

5. Failure to comply by these guidelines MAY result in a student being asked to leave and the student will be marked absent for that class.

Meeting Information:
Meets Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-12:40

Attendance:
It is well documented that when a student attends class, they are much more likely to successfully complete the course.  To that end, students are expected to be present for every class.  Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every class.  Students who are more than 5 minutes late for class will be considered absent.  Any student who leaves before the class completes will be considered absent as well.

A student is allowed two absences before the student will lose ALL attendance points.  However, the student has an opportunity to re-earn those points by completing an extra assignment, given by the professor, to be completed before the next class in which the assignment is given.  A student who does not complete the assignment by the next class or who does not make a good faith effort, determined by the professor, cannot re-earn the attendance points.

A student will be given the opportunity to complete 3 assignments throughout the semester.  Any extra assignment after the third will only be given at the discretion of the professor.

Withdrawal Policy
The last day a student can withdraw from this course and receive a grade of W is on the college calendar.

It is the responsibility of the student to withdraw from the course themselves by the withdrawal deadline.  Any student wishing to withdraw from the course should do so online at: http://my.spcollege.edu/ In accordance with college policy, no student can withdraw from a course after the withdrawal deadline. Do NOT ask your instructor to withdraw you from the course; it is your responsibility.

Third attempts: Students attempting this course for the third time (or more) cannot withdraw (State of Florida regulation). Failing to meet the attendance requirement will result in a grade of WF.

Grading:
Students enrolled after the withdrawal deadline will receive one of the grades below.
190-200=A, 180-189=B, 170-179=C, 169-160=D, >159=F

Attendance: 100 points.
The Attendance grade and the best 5 of the 6 following categories will be used to determine the final grade:

Daily Quizzes 20 points
Test 1 – Vectors and Vector Valued Functions 20 points
Test 2 – Functions of Several Variables 20 points
Test 3 – Multiple Integration 20 points
Test 4 – Vector Analysis 20 points
Final exam 20 points

Assignments:

Homework:  This course does not require homework as part of the assessment.  However, it is very difficult to succeed in a math course without practicing the skills being taught.  To encourage student’s practice, homework problems will be posted to mymathlab corresponding to all the material to be covered on the next test.  Students who earn at least a 90% on the homework will earn 10 extra points for the coming test.  Students must have earned the 90% before the start of the class in which the test is to be given.
Tests: There will be a test at the conclusion of each unit. The tests are 8 to 10 questions, and are never multiple choice.  The test questions will look substantially similar to the homework and quiz questions.  No make-up tests will be given for any reason.
Quizzes:  At the conclusion of every class, a problem will be handed out to be completed by the beginning of the next class.  The problem will cover the material for the next class.  Students are encouraged to work together, visit the learning commons, and ask the professor for help in answering the quiz question.   There are no make-up quizzes given for any reason.
Cumulative Final Exam:
At the conclusion of the course a comprehensive cumulative final exam will be required of all students to show proficiency in the stated course objectives.

All course work must be completed by the appropriate due dates.  A grade of zero will be assigned to any course requirement not completed.
