Hello everyone. My name is Professor Mayo. I teach American National Government, and International Relations, for St. Petersburg College. Born on Long Island (New York), I have lived in sunny St. Petersburg since 1980. 

I graduated from St. Petersburg High School, then earned my Associate of Arts degree from what was then called St. Petersburg Junior College. In 1994, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (with a minor in Political Science) from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. In 2004, I earned my Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Most recently (2016), I earned a Professional Certificate in "E-Learning Instructional Design" from the University of California, Irvine.

In the mid-to-late 1990's, I served as a Legislative Assistant in the Florida Senate (working for Charlie Crist, our state's former Governor and current member of the U.S. Congress). After that interesting endeavor - which was good training in government and political affairs - I spent some time in the private sector working as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator for a small software development firm (during the height of the "Tech Boom").

After the New Millennium, I went to work as Public Affairs Director for a large profession trade association located in the Tampa Bay area. Essentially, I directed all of the organization's government and political affairs. I also spent some time working for the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections office as a Deputy Administrator. Subsequently, I became an independent contractor, providing public affairs services to select organizations and political candidates in Florida.

I have been teaching for St. Petersburg College since 2004, and love it. Teaching is not only a noble profession, but one of the highest forms of public service. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
