I have been teaching at St. Petersburg College for 37 years - since 1980. When I was 19, I dropped out of college, and I hitchhiked alone around Europe for one year, and worked odd jobs in many countries. In Greece I lived on a remote tiny island with a shepherd family, and worked as a shepherdess for three months, herding the sheep and goats daily and making feta cheese. It changed my life, as I became fluent in Greek. I did not even know one word in Greek before that! I totally fell in love with Greek culture.

When I returned to the USA at the end of the year, I majored in Ancient and Modern Greek Language and Literature at Boston University - undergraduate and graduate school. So far I have been to 36 countries, and Greece eight times. I endlessly apply for scholarships and grants so I can go to see and learn all the history, art, culture and religion of the countries that I teach about in my six different courses that I have created. One of my favorite scholarships I have won was a Fulbright Scholarship to spend six weeks in Pakistan in 1984. It was incredible and so interesting.

Traveling abroad totally helps me comprehend the details of every country, and then share it with my students to help them understand and enjoy the learning. Each semester I teach Ancient Greek Mythology (CLT 2373) and Western Humanities: Ancient to Renaissance (HUM 2210) online. My face-to-face classes on the Tarpon Springs Campus are East-West Synthesis (HUM 2270), Introduction to Greek Culture (HUM 2262), and two Introduction to Humanities (HUM 2010).
Best wishes to you all for an excellent and successful semester, Professor Felos
